| The Latvian Philarmonic
Chamber Orchestra is one of the most acclaimed of its kind throughout
Europe. Founded in 1967 by the Lativan conductor Tovy Lifshvitz,
the LPCO's repertoire includes not only the great classics, but
also the music of today's composers. With particular attention
to Latvian composers, the LPCO was awarded in 2000 the prestigious
Beato Angelico for Europe Award for their championing of Latvian
and Baltic culture throughout Europe.
Concert artists with whom the Latvian
Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra has collaborated include Gidon
Kremer, Vladimir Spivakov, Mischa Maisky, Oleg Kagan, Igor Oistrack,
Natalia Gutman, Justas Frantz, Maxim Shostakovich, and Stephen
Framil. Having toured worldwide, the LPCO has performed in the
concert halls of Paris, Vienna, Munich, Moscow, St. Petersbourg,
Prague, Dallas, Zurich, Bombay, Milan, Florence, Turin, Bologna,
Venice, Naples and Rome.
Festivals in which the Latvian Philharmonic
Chamber Orchestra has performed include the Rossini Opera Festival
Preview, Garda Musical Summer, Puccini Festival, Umberto Giordano
Festival, Camerino Festival, Festival Pontino, The Sounds of Dolomiti
Festival, Sacred Music Festival for the showing of the Sacra Sindone
in Turin, University Concert Institution of Rome, Serate Musicali
in Milano, Teatro Regio of Parma, A. Scarlatti Association in
Naples, Bologna Festival as part of the programme of Bologna 2000
European Culture Capital, Ravenna Festival 2001, and many others.
The LPCO has been the orchestra-in-residence at the Ferrazzano
Festival (1998) and the Brolo International Festival (2000-2004).
Based in the prestigious
Wagner Hall in Riga, the Latvian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra's
Chief Conductor and Artistic Director is Maestro Massimo Lambertini.
